Almost a LBD

Last week Allison, a dear childhood friend of mine, visited town for a few days. We only got to spend one afternoon together,  and she only visits about once a year, but we tried to made the most of our time together.
I wore my mock-turtleneck crop with a black cotton knit skirt. I think it gave kind of an American Apparel-y vibe. I dig that. Both pieces together kind of looked like a little black dress. I'm kind of obsessed with mock one-piece look you get with a matching top and bottom.

We hung out at the local park; it was pretty hot, as Texas tends to be, but we made a quick trip to Starbucks to help us endure the heat.

These blue and black socks went perfectly 'cos they matched, well, me.

Stuntin' with my new black floral Adam Levine bag. Que j'aime!

Me, Allison, and Sam

(To Allison: If you are reading this, we had a great time in the little time we got to see you. We love you "cousin"!)

How do you keep cool in the hot, hot summer?

Until next time, - Kae xoxo

Miley Inspired Kitten Bodysuit

Now that I am eighteen, I am able to do something I have been wanting to do since I was like, twelve. Yesterday, I got my hair dyed blue. I wanted it a really dark navy color, but it turned out about a dozen different shades, varying from navy blue to teal green. I absolutely love it.

I recently discovered this trendy UK brand, AND Clothing, and they have some absolutely dope pieces.
I had a hard time choosing between their Mermaid crop top or their Kitten bodysuit. As you can see, the bodysuit ultimately won, but the crop top is next on my wishlist!

Since the brand is located in the UK, and I reside in the US, shipping costs more and takes longer. It only took about a week though, which I was very happy about. I ordered a size medium, and when I received it, it sadly looked like it would be too big, but I guess I underestimate my size, because it fits really nicely with a smidgen of room to grow in certain places (if you know what I mean *wink wink* just kidding, I'm pretty sure I'm done growing *sob*).

Reasons I am obsessed with this bodysuit:
a) Because, cats.
b) It's super comfy, and
c) It's a great knock off of the Markus Lupfer print that Miley wore at the 2013 AMAs, and basically Miley is my Queen. (link leads to YouTube video)

Overall, I think AND Clothing is a great brand; check them out! I was way too excited to wear this and show y'all, so I hope you like it.

Have any other quirky, trendy brands to recommend? I WANT TO KNOW.
Would you ever color your hair an unnatural color?
Leave me a comment and lemme know!

Until next time - Kae

Simple and Sunny

It was seriously sunny yo'.

Thursday night, I saw The UTEP Dinner Theater's production of Chess the Musical, and I hadn't really put any thought into what I would wear until the very last minute. I kind of just thoughtlessly threw this on, which is rare for me, because I have way too much fun carefully assembling my outfits. I wasn't even going to post this, but my sister called for an impromptu picture taking session (I shoot her, she shoots me), so why not?

I wore this florescent yellow lace top from Dillard's, with a pair of black jeans. This pair is really black because they are new, and I sure hope they stay that way. I like the peek-a-boo lace panels on the sides of the top, because they show a little more skin while still being relatively modest.

I finished the look with my kitten tapestry Lita booties by Jeffrey Campbell, my favorite shoe brand (even though I only own one pair, these). I got these (by request) for my sixteenth birthday, and I just look for any opportunity to wear them. Because, cats.

Do you have an absolute favorite shoe brand?
Have you seen the musical Chess?
Let me know in the comments below!

Eighteenth Birthday Attire: Kae Edition!

For my eighteenth birthday, which was on the ninth, my wonderful mother took my siblings and I out to dinner as a birthday treat for me. I chose a cozy little Italian restaurant called Monteleone's Ristorante. It is haunted, and has actually been featured on the Sci-fi Channel's Paranormal Witness. It has a eccentric and creepy look, and the best Italian wedding soup!

I was going to wear a more casual look, but my sister insisted that we get all fancy. And I can never resist playing dress-up, so I did:

I wore a floral print top from Dillards, with a black bandage skirt and Jessica Simpson heels. Jazzing up the look with purple lipstick, and turquoise earrings; a birthday present from my favorite aunt.

I like how the form fitting skirt and the not-so form fitting top balance each other out. I still felt fancy without feeling uncomfortable.

I had a really good day and I thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Next up, nineteen!

Until next time, keep playing dress-up! - Kae

P.S. Big thanks to Mrs. Cruz and Sabbath for making me feel extra special, and of course to Bre who never fails to text me as soon as the clock strikes twelve to wish me a happy birthday! Mwah!

Red, White, Blue and Tropical!

This year for America's Independence Day, the local baseball stadium didn't show any firworks, which meant if we actually wanted to watch some, we would have to go somewhere (besides the park ten minutes away. But first(!), my mother took my siblings and I to see Maleficent, which was ah-mazing! I love Angelina Jolie, and could go on about her for hours, but how 'bout no.

Here's what I wore:

Instead of dressing all themed in the obvious stars and stripes, I took a more subtle approach. (Good thing too, cuz I saw a girl wearing the exact Jessica Simpson shirt I would have worn if I had wanted to look more patriotic)

"Blue jeans, white shirt, walked into the room..."

I drew my inspiration from Lana Del Rey's song "Blue Jeans". Even though she's referring to a man wearing the outfit, I just think it's such a classic look you can never get wrong.

So I had my blue jeans, white shirt, and red lips!

This is my beautiful friend Maria, who accompanied us to see the firework show. I totally admired her trendy harem pants that she bought at the Grand Bazaar whilst in Turkey last month! With her wrap-around top and suede smoking slippers, I thought the look was so stylish and versatile.

On hot summer days I have a love-hate relationship with clothing, As in, I love to wear clothing, but at the same time, I try to wear as little as possible. I just get too darn hot!

Because the show was outdoors (duh), I changed into something a little less... yeah, just less.
I got this cute tropical print bodysuit at Forever 21. I'm obsessed with it. It has a low back and a high cut leg, and it reminds me of swimsuits from the eighties (I've even worn it as a swimsuit, because WTH?)! With my favorite denim shorts, I was cool, comfortable, and ready to watch an awesome firework show.

This picture makes me happy.   Check out my sister's patriotic lippie! U.S.A! U.S.A!!
I had a great time last Friday, and I hope everyone else did too, regardless of the country you are from. So putting all thoughts of clothing aside; Happy Birthday U.S.A!!!

Until next time - Kae

Lindsey Sablowski's "Thicker Than Blood" Cover Reveal!

I have been super excited about this post, because it's themed! Today is the official cover reveal for my dear friend, and author Lindsey Sablowski's new book Thicker Than Blood, which is being released this August! So for my contribution I have assembled a few ensembles inspired by the beautiful cover art.
Without further ado, check out the amazing cover!

*drumroll please*

Cover design by Alivia Anders of White Rabbit designs & creations

Isn't it cool? Thicker Than Blood is the third book of The Magicians Series by Lindsey Sablowski.
Lindsey and I met on the Online community of the now-defunct Inkpop. We were writing a book together with a few other girls, called If They're Watching. And while the book never really caught much air (to catch air? Is that even a term? Well it is now), the five of us remains constant friends. So I jumped at the chance to help promote Thicker Than Blood.

Official summary:
Alaire Sencler is not the man he used to be. He left behind a foul and bloody past to be with the woman he loves, but the memories never allow him to forget what he did.
While the White magicians rise an army, their leader hides his true reasons for going to war. Meanwhile the Dark magicians seek out a new haven, one that might keep them hidden long enough to prepare for the war that is raging on outside their doorstep.
Though Alaire has a unique gift and the woman of his dreams by his side, he has yet to come to terms with Esmour's death and what the future holds for him. New faces and the revealing of the fifth Dark magicians offers hope, but only the strongest will survive in the final battle.
Whoever said "blood runs thicker than water" never knew what it is like to be a part of the current.

Check out the bottom of this post for an excerpt, but first, the outfits!
Outfit No. 1

I was so inspired by the cover, but it was a little hard to fashion a summer outfit, with the dark colors and snow and all, but I did it! I paired my lace Guess bustier, with faux leather shorts and layered a deep red cardigan over it (it looks bright red in the picture, but I assure you, it's darker). I copied the makeup look from the cover as well.
The things that stand out the most to me on the cover are the belt, the coat button, and of course, her red hair and lips. So I tried to incorporate all of those into my outfits.

Outfit No. 2

This was probably my favorite look, but it was way too hot for July! Same bustier, paired with red leggings, and a black ruffle-hemmed  jacket.
This lightweight jacket was so perfect for this, with it's lapels and buttons. It even has buttons on the sleeves, like the one on the book cover!

Outfit No. 3

Check out my ombre lippie, to match the shadowy cover look!

On second thought, maybe this was my favorite look. At any rate, it was the most comfortable. It doesn't have a belt, or buttons, but I think it still embodies the feel of Thicker Than Blood.
I paired a plain black tee, with a ruffly black skirt, and lace-striped leggings. And with my round-toe sneakers, I feel like I even got a teeny lolita-esque vibe! And because I obviously don't have red hair, I paid homage to the cover girl by tying a velvet maroon ribbon in my hair.

I loved putting together these looks, so thank you Lindsey for the opportunity and inspiration!
Be sure to buy Thicker Than Blood when it comes out next month, and in the meantime check out the first two books, Cursed With Power, and Shadows and Embers, and give Lindsey a visit at her blog saying I sent you!

With anticipation - Kae

P.S. Here's a peek at the upcoming release!

We followed the noises and passed by more trees until Léal was in our sight. He performed a spell which hit the tree in front of him. Rostland held me back and gestured he would advance first.
Slowly stepping forward, Rostland said, “Léal, you need to stop before you hurt yourself.”

He turned around and glared, but sweat covered his face and ran past his neck.
Léal replied, “You knew her for one year; I knew her for five. She kept saying time and time again she was on my side, and I never once believed her until the end.”
Rostland took another step forward, but Léal raised his hand. I considered moving closer to help if anything spun out of control, but I was confident in Rostland.
“Do you plan to kill me again? Come now, you’re making a fool out of yourself,” Rostland said in a firm voice.
Léal whispered a word and cast a spell, causing a ice shard to strike through Rostland’s chest. Every muscle in my body tensed, but Rostland quickly ripped the icicle out and threw it on the ground. The icicle broke apart into pieces, and the two men stared at each other.

Fashionably Late? Or just late?

Nananananananananananananananana Batman! I'm Batman. Not really, I'm just really late for a prom post.

So while I was shopping for my dress, sadly, I couldn't find the perfect one. Which totally sucks. But, I found a beautiful red dress that would work just fine. It was too long and the straps were loose, so I had my aunt hem the bottom and shorten the straps. She also made my corsage and Justin's boutonniere. And while they were both beautiful, the white flowers and black lace didn't exactly match the red dress.

And on another note, I had a fabulous time at prom. We went to this amazing Italian restaurant called Bella Napoli. In the middle of dinner, my phone went off, it was my friend Taylor and she said, "I see you." I looked up and BAM! She was across the room. It was quite interesting.

So my lovely people, I am sorry that this is so short, but prom was a while ago and there's really nothing else to say.

Stay beautiful my lovelies.

P.S. I was recently in Houston for the TMTA convention, and I had to wear this beautiful red dress. The straps can be tied many different ways, but they weren't long enough to do much with them. *Please ignore my totally weird looking selfie.*
P.P.S. I tried to attend Justin's high school graduation, but the stupid power went out and I didn't get to see him walk. I was so FREAKING PISSED.
