That's So Seventies

Here's something you may not know about me: I love the fashion of the past! I draw my inspiration from so many past decades, and my current favorite is the bohemian and hippie looks of the seventies.

I found this dress from Forever 21 and immediately became obsessed. The sleeves are what really sold it to me. Now that I think about it, ever since I was little I had a penchant for bell-sleeves. It came in the mail yesterday (after I had been obsessively tracking the shipment every single day of this week), and I had to wear it A.S.A.P! I originally imagined wearing it with some thigh-high socks and my chelsea boots, but I was already wearing the pants and shoes, so I just threw it on as a tunic before going out. I love what a strong seventies vibe it gave off!

Forever 21 gives this dress the generic title of "Floral Print Skater Dress" but it's actually a smock dress. The material is nice and soft; thicker than I expected, but thin enough that I wished I had a cardigan that windy evening. It has a beautiful open back (which featured my strappy VS bra perfectly) and I really like the crochet details on the sleeves. On it's own, it kind of has a slight renaissance-y feel, but layered over denim, it gives a whole different look. 

I wrote about how much I loved these jeans before, but since then, a belt loop, unfortunately ripped off. It was quite a disappointment, since I thought they were better than that, but nothing a little Duck tape couldn't handle. I like how they covered my shoes, leaving mostly the platform and the chunky heel exposed.

The shoes are one of my favorite pairs, the cat tapestry Litas by Jeffrey Campbell. It wouldn't have occurred to me to wear them with this dress, considering it was already patterned, but I think it looked kinda quirky and cool. Keeping the print-clashing train going, I grabbed my floral bag. I mostly grabbed it because it was the only purse I have that I can hide popcorn in, though I wasn't sure all those prints wouldn't look terrible. I think it even looked all right, I mean, the prints were similar enough: rouge tinted roses on black. Close enough.

Anyways, I felt totally stylish, beautiful, and confident in this outfit, which is exactly how I think one should feel in clothing.
